Angus Taylor MP joins Volunteers for delivery service
Camden Meals on Wheels were delighted to welcome the Hon Angus Taylor MP, local member for Hume and also the Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction.
Angus joined local volunteers Kerry and Sue delivering meals to Camden Meals on Wheels clients. Angus soon learned there was more to Camden Meals on Wheels than delivering “just a meal”. He soon discovered that a simple meal delivery always meant an opportunity for a quick chat and engaging with the community. Angus was able to experience firsthand the important role Camden Meals on Wheels play in supporting independence for older residents.
Angus noted that the volunteer from Camden Meals on Wheels may be the only person a client may see all week.
Angus was able to meet a range of clients, many of whom were both delighted and excited to see their local member supporting Camden Meals on Wheels and learning more about the service that they love.
“I have always been aware of Meals on Wheels and the work they do, but I am finding they do much more than meal delivery.” Angus noted, referring to the many services Camden Meals on Wheels provide.
In addition to meal delivery, Camden Meals on Wheels provide a range of service to ensure clients remain socially connected, including:
- Meal Mates – a volunteer will enjoy a hot meal with a client in their home, providing company and friendship.
- Social Support – including a range of group activities including café lunches, social outings, excursions and other activities.
- Transport Services – helping residents get to appointments and other activities, including medical appointments, shopping and hair appointments.
